Fantastic video 😊
Thank you very much...
Damn! I guess I want worry about the little pea size ding on the top tube of my Yo Eddy
A very small dent is usually cosmetic only. It is part of the "patina" of the frame as it ages....
Thanks for sharing your methods of making the fork crown. As you said, you need to think of each step before making them.
Thanks Tom. Yes, making a fork crown is not super simple. I do hope I am making a good one!
Thanks
The paintstripping effect is cool, crafting the new old fork is awesome😎
Amazing! You are a Master!
Thank you very much!
Instead of the screwdriver spreader, slip a bit of sheet metal into the slot and tighten your allen screw from the other side to push the slot open without risking marking anything
Yes that's a good idea. I have done that before. I used a copper penny. Thanks for commenting!
Ha! I didn't realize Ritchey cast a spell on Mr. Brodie too! "After some early days riding mediocre road bikes in the early 80's, something important arrived at the Peddler bicycle shop where he was working in Vancouver: the Red Ritchey. "When the Red Ritchey showed up, for me, that changed an awful lot… I could not believe that anybody had made a bike that beautiful. I just, I couldn't take my eyes off it." Not being able to afford the Ritchey himself, he went out back to the Peddler on his lunch break and did some dumpster diving. "I found a Sekine road bike, a 25-inch road bike that was way too big for me. Well, I guess I could have made it work, but that's not what I wanted. I wanted the tubing. I wanted the bottom bracket and things like that."" Same here! The "bike that got away" was the Ritchey Commando. And there one was sitting on the sales floor in 1986 next to me for MONTHS! I could have employee purchased one! Why, oh why didn't I just put in a few more hours in the shop so I could buy it??!!!! (I know why, because my STEM course load at University was kicking my ass and I had to quit the shop job and focus on school. THAT'S why!) But boy is that red Ritchey its equal as a true thing of beauty! I'm with you, sir!!! Quote from Pinkbike. Haven't actually watched the video yet... will do soon!
First, thanks for commenting! Yes, that Red Ritchey really did have a huge influence on my life. It showed me what was possible, and made me want to create something equally as beautiful...
@@paulbrodie appreciate the reply, Mr. Brodie. Keep up the great work and videos. Cheers from California.
Thank you. Call me Paul... Only bankers and cops call me Mister Brodie...
I was really into bikes when I was a kid, hence why I’m watching you I think. Any ways I liked the bigger cranks for climbing the hills in my little town. I didn’t have any real good bikes just junk I’d find out we could get from the local roses, Walmart, Kmart. Sadly there was no mountain biking magazines in the stores either. That was not a thing. I don’t think this type of bikes came in out area till the 90’s. They were all road bikes at the stores, the typical ten speed. It was fun though as a kid putting two or three junk bikes together and making something.
It did take a while for mountain biking to catch on. It came up the coast from California, and then slowly spread East. That's great you were tinkering as a kid. I hope you're still doing something with your hands.. Thanks for commenting....
Learn something every video 👍👌 Cheers Chris
Hey Chris, thanks for watching!
Another good one, thanks Paul and Mitch.
Thanks for commenting!
I sent you a facebook message over a week ago, not sure if you`ve seen it ......
Thank you Paul and Mitch!
Thank you too...
Awesome!!!
An Allen Millyard video AND a Paul Brodie in the same day.... I am a happy man now. 😁👍 Edit: 420 likes.... Nice. 😂
I recently picked up some "spent" suspension forks (RST, elastomer...) from sometime during the mid 1990s with a removable crown. I might not be the first one to do it, but making some rigid legs for these old crowns could breath new life into many old bikes, without having a boring old unicrown fork, because it's important to give an old bike some style.
You will have to be careful to make sure the new tubes are exactly the same size (within a thou...) as the previous legs. Otherwise you won't get the right amount of "holding power".. Remember the 3 Rules: 1. Looking good 2. Going fast 3. Safety Third!
Hey Paul down south we have things called pucks that are1/4" to 1/2" thick that we slide under the kick stand 3to4" in diameter to prevent indention into tar or the road 😅
David, I can see how you would call them Pucks. Makes me think of Hockey Pucks like we have up here in Canada, eh? Thanks for commenting!
@@paulbrodie love your show and your ability to fix any problems. If I weren't held to living on social security I would by you and Mitch many coffees.
Thanks David. We appreciate your support...
enough poor content, unwatchable and unsubed, bye
This part reminds me of the magnificent Pace RC35 fork.
AMAZING craftsmanship spanning half a century! like a time capsule. I'm both humbled and amazed!
Thanks for your kind comment!
I enjoyed watching this video, I enjoyed listening to you talking about the bike as you built it.
Good as allways❤
Let's wait for Christmas in a little while!
I still hope to snag one of these some day. Great video and an absolute pleasure as always Paul and Mitch. thank you and cheers !!
These forks were a one off, so it's going to be pretty hard to "snag".. Maybe you are talking about a Gatorblade perhaps? Thanks for watching...

Yes, we are enjoying working on the Woznot...
Great show. Always learning something new. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much!
I still think it should be christened NOTWOZNOT😃
Wasn't that an 80's band?
@@SmaulPart-pb5hmthat’s WOZNOTWOZ.
Now the name is getting too long. But thanks for thinking!
I’d love to hear more about the other Brodie bikes there. The 90s models, their origin, features, etc…. Just more Paul Brodie stories.
I think you need a Booklet from the show.. Photos of all the bikes and each one has a story. I think Thomas has a few extra he could possibly sell....
Paul- if you turn your speakers upside down so the tweeters are closer to ear level you’ll get better sound
The tie-dye banner looks fantastic! Wish I was a fly on the wall
Thanks Shawn. It was quite a bit of work but I am happy with the end result....
I keep making BBS , Not enough heat ?
John, I do not know what BBS is...
Where do you get your accent from? I assume it's in the UK.
You are correct. Born in the UK, immigrated to Canada when I was nine....
@@paulbrodie Which part?
We lived in Southampton...
@@paulbrodie Ah. The reason I asked, is because placing British accents is a sort of hobby.
Arr the mock-up masking tape as opposed to the production masking tape. The steam chest collector is a steam dome in train speak. Wobbels the mad Ducatist.
Yes, I made that Steam Bike many years ago, so the memory is getting distant.. I make no claim to be a "Steam Expert", but it was a fun project. Thanks for watching...
Paul Thank You so much you've been my light and my inspiration. I have had a tough time with bikes. And always say I am an enigma and am misunderstood like a bike. I am writing a short bike history for a promo and I am mentioning you. I hold no credentials in the discipline, but the mastery you propagate is glorious. The levity and acuity of your channel, is a bonus.
Thank you very much for liking our videos! And for commenting.. I'm not sure why you have had such a tough time with bikes, but I hope they get easier for you in the future. I wish you the best...
Imagine having all the parts..the know how...and end up with a concourse winner.....it really does not get any better than this video and man.
Thank you Phil. Very nice comment!
im literaly doing an identical project, but i have run into major money issues, every thing is figured out and ready to start fabing it up, just money is an issue. tho my design uses an EUC motor due to how slim they are (80-70mm wide) so they are PERFECT to run on standard bicycles with a narrow 68mm BB. besides money the other issue (that i have many solution for but all are pricey) is mounting a sprocket to the motor side plate :p but yeah my design pretty much is a fit in every bike solution as long as the triangle is large enough, but even then if its not, cut out the bottom tube and a slap in two new bottom tubes and have the motor sit between them. as for the how to connect the motor chain to the rear wheel? this is the neat part, trails cranks, slap on a freewheel that can mount 2 104bcd sprockets, and you dont need any tensioners for the motor chain, and when using a full suspension BMX, or a slopestyle bike you dont even need a rear tensioner for the chain either since those bikes pivot exactly around the cranks chainrings. so my current project pretty much is a full suspension steel bmx bike. hub to mid conversion as said above (with the motor being able to push 8kw peak at around 400nm torque at the gearing id wanna set) single speed ofc (i thought about belt but chain is just nicer but only bmx chain is strong enough, but is more effient than moto chain :D ) with a easy swapable 72-140v ish batery around 50ah to keep the amps down thus having more eficiency and bigger throtle curve electronics wise. and since this is a OP build, the rear suspension will be ultra stiff with a lockout. the front suspension will literaly be double deck DH fork the inverted kind with a boost hub setup of 20x110mm (working on a front peg mount mechanism there too) the rear on 14x110 (might go rear 20x110mm too if i can find a strong enough hub) with stunt pegs that can take the weight of a full pasanger. front 250mm surron disc brakes x2 due to a special hub with quad piston calipers rear 250mm single with quad piston. and other gimmicks etc. guess the main dif in my build is its more of an ultra strong endurance beast in a small formfactor. and retrofitting as much existing parts as possible to keep the price and complexity down. and ngl kinda like how you made that hub to mid conversion, a french dude i know is building a very sumilar design but he replaced the motors core where the axle is with a custom machined one and custom sideplates too :) wish i had a workshop like you then my project would probs be cheaper to create and easier
Yes, you have a Project on your hands! It does take money to make things happen, and having a shop is very handy too. The danger, I think, is taking on more than you can comfortably handle, and then getting discouraged, or stalling out... I have done both in my younger years. So, my advice is to take on what you can handle, and maybe a little more... Be realistic, do a little very day to keep moving forward, and never give up! Thanks for commenting...
@@paulbrodie I never give up honestly, most of the time I get forced to quit or stop due to money issues, if it weren’t for that could spend 95% of my awake time on building stuff it just comes that easy to me, now days though I spend less time building more time trying to find the best deals on parts like I literally spent 3 hours the other day just looking at at a new ratchet, and when im not looking for deals I’m searching for other similar parts to wich I need so I can modify them to fit my use case, maybe lowkey insanity when you live in a world where it’s cheaper to take a kitchen spoon and flatten it to file it into a special distancing tool so I can rivet two plates together and slide out the tool leaving just enough space to affix elastic wire netting than to find a dedicated tool for that 🤣 Or instead of having pre made chainrings that are narrow wide for Bmx chain I have to use 420 chain moto sprockets and shave and shape them down by hand cause they just don’t exist 😅
A brass spacer would of been way cooler instead of the delrin
You might be right, but brass is way heavier than Delrin...
Paul you should make some type of small doodad to sell out of brass or copper
Very cool, really made me realize what I lost this past week when somebody stole my 25th anniversary edition Brodie Fury from out front of the gym. I miss my noble Canadian steed.
Just curious, where does one get pistons, rings and rods for Sprints. Also, why the shorter rod? It causes more side thrust from the piston to the cylinder walls but I guess has some benefits as well. I'm just not sure of what they are.
For my race motors I ordered a box of 4 pistons from JE Pistons in the USA. They come with wrist pins and circlips. Rods come from Carillo. A shorter rod means I can move the motor forward towards the front tire, for better weight distribution. Yes, there is more side thrust on the cylinder walls, but it seems to make no difference to the longevity of the motor. Thanks for commenting....
@@paulbrodie Thank you for answering my questions. That gives me hope. I hope you don't find my questions annoying. Did you have to rebalance your flywheels for the new pistons that look lighter and rods that look lighter as well?
@@paulbrodie BTW, I just finished your video where you made the heat sink for your ignition system. I was looking for part 3 of that series. I absolutely love your Aermacchi series.
Bryan, you are welcome. I did not rebalance my flywheels. Engine works just fine with the lighter parts...
Awesome!
